Week in review

The Week In Review is a snapshot and “one stop shop” of articles we’ve written during the week and other content we’ve found interesting and come across on the internet. The topics will vary but generally should have some linkage and relevance to what we discuss. Perspective and knowledge can provide some wonderful insights and inspiration. Hope you enjoy the spin!

Stuff we found interesting on the web:

  1. This is a pretty interesting interactive piece on how the stock market has faired under the last several Presidents. It feels like the stock market has been solid since #45 took office (and it has) but for comparison purposes this indicates something totally different, which is why it is always important to have a baseline or benchmark.
  2. Everyone should be concerned about the budget deficit the United States has. The amount outstanding is massive and it is only going to get worse. Simply put, it isn’t sustainable. Something needs to be done. Eventually someone comes to collect. It’s not a matter of if but when.
  3. Does the stock market volatility stress you out? Week’s like the one we had last week are common. No need to get all worked up when it drops hardcore. Just head over to JL Collins and listen to his soothing voice as you meditate. It will solve all your problems.
  4. Time management is essential. It is critical when we are full time employees. I also imagine it is just as important, if not more, when we become retired. Successful people have strategies, maybe try a few of them out? Let us know what you think!
  5. We love to travel, that much you probably already know. Mr. Saver stumbled upon a new travel site. Seems kind of interesting, especially once FI is established. If you want to know more about the origins of it he dug a little and found this. It might not be available for your city yet but that might be changing soon.

Anyone have any interesting Labor Day plans? Mr. Saver has a work trip coming up this week and once he’s back we are jetting off to Kauai since we found ridiculously low fares of $340 roundtrip per person. That’s pretty good for Hawaii, particularly the island of Kauai. Even better, we cashed in credit card rewards that were going to expire unless we paid the annual fee so we cashed them in before cancelling the card and the plane tickets are 100% free! Aloha….
