Goals or Resolutions?

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

It’s January 17th.  At this point, many resolutions have possibly been broken and some are still in tact.   It’s January 17th and I’m still building my list, but to me, they’re not resolutions they are goals.  My own personal goals for the year.  Every year, on December 31st, the ‘Saver’ and I sit down and work on a list.  We write them all down in our Apple Tasks to help us both stay accountable.  However on December 31st, I had three on the list and his was complete at six.   So, now on January 17th, I think I’m in business with my goals for 2019.  Here it goes…

#1 – Live life with patience, gratitude, acceptance and to ‘live the life I live’.  I actually carried this one over from 2018, with an amendment.  2018 was the year of adjustment from all the change 2017 had brought to our lives, the birth of our son and the death of a father.  So when 2018 started, I needed to stay grounded.  Grounded in the notion that we were all going to get through it.  And now in 2019, I added “Live the life I live.”  May sound weird to some, but for me it’s the reminder to be alive every day.  To understand that some days are going to go to shit, and that other days will be great.  That it’s life, we can’t control it, but we can control the way we react to it.

#2 – Three new Arizona cities.  The ‘Saver’ and I love to travel.   It was something that brought us together initially and a passion we both continue to share.  And we’re dead-set, he has no choice, on making our little guy a traveler too!  We typically take one big international trip a year, mixed in with several stateside adventures.  However, we have lost sight of the beautiful state we call home.  It’s now time to explore our own backyard a little more.  I’ll be sure to share the planning and budgeting of these road trips as they develop.

#3 – Work on Myself – Get to a healthier place with my body and balance.  Since our little guy arrived, my health and wellness have taken a backseat.  Body image is something we all struggle with at one point in our lives.  I’ve gotten to a place of struggle and I’m making a commitment to turn the ship around, even a quarter turn.   I know there will be slip-ups along the way, I’ll miss a work out and indulgence will happen!  But I am determined to be happier with my body image at the end of this year than when the year began, all the while with balance in mind.

#4 – Be “Active” 3-4 times per week.  This correlates with #3, but dives deeper.  I want to just be active.  This goal, isn’t about just working out.  It means family bike rides and walks and hikes and even just a 15-minute dance party on my living room floor.

#5 – 10 Minutes of mediation a day.  Had my first session last night, for just 5-minutes.  I’m trying out a few apps, so far I like Meditation Studio the most, but I’ll keep you posted.   Honestly this one is the most challenging goal of all.   Why?  It requires me to take 10-minutes for just me, every-single-day.  Accountability log coming soon…..

Do you have goals or resolutions?  How do you stay accountable?  Here goes nothing….cheers to 2019!
